The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) supports the development of high performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services. It is a key EU funding instrument in delivering the green transition and an important enabler towards the Union’s decarbonisation objectives for 2030 and 2050. CEF benefits people across all Member States: it makes travel easier and more sustainable, enhances Europe’s energy security while enabling wider use of renewables, and facilitates cross-border interaction between public administrations, businesses and citizens. CEF provides funding in the forms of grants and procurement and contributes to attracting private investments. CEF Transport is the EU funding instrument to realise European transport infrastructure policy. It supports investments in building new transport infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading existing ones. CEF Energy is the EU funding programme to implement the trans-European networks for energy policy. It supports investments in building new cross-border energy infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading existing ones. CEF Digital supports investments in digital connectivity infrastructures of common European interest. This part is managed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). Strengthening dual-use transport infrastructure in the Finnish Port of Pori By removing key infrastructure bottlenecks, the project has increased the port’s capacity to handle roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and heavy cargo transport, while enabling the dual use of transport infrastructure for civilian and defence purposes. Rail Baltica: connecting the Baltic States to rest of Europe by high-speed train Rail Baltica is the largest infrastructure project ever in the Baltics. Built to the latest European standards, it will more than double current top train speeds in the region. Milan Malpensa Airport now connected by train to Northern Italy and Switzerland A new train connection from Milan Malpensa Airport Terminal 2 will officially be opened. This new line will connect the airport directly to nearby stations, including Gallarate and Casorate Sempione, and branch off to the Simplon railway line towards Switzerland. Opening of the second tube of the Karawanks cross-border road tunnel The new tube complements the original tunnel, operational since 1991, which is about 8 km long and thereby the longest road tunnel in Slovenia.
