The purpose of the organization is to represent the interests of surveyors worldwide. It is a federation of the national member associations and covers a whole range of professional fields within the global surveying community. It provides an international forum for discussion and development aiming to promote professional practice and standards.

Publication Author Support grants of up to 28,000 euros spread over a maximum of four years Increasing FIG publications by authors who reside in low-income, lower-middle or upper-middle income economy countries Contributing to the implementation of part of a Commission’s Working Plan Applications submitted by Commission Chairs. In the event of a joint venture involving more than one commission, the various Commission Chairs shall submit a joint application An author who are an active participant in policy development and/or some form of knowledge development related to surveying, and they should be qualified as a professional surveyor
